This magnificent production presents the topsy-turvy story by Arthur Sullivan and W.S.Gilbert. Tickets for The Mikado at the London Coliseum aren’t just Titipu’s finest, but the finest in the West End when it comes to comic operas.
The Mikado focuses on the unfolding love story between Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum. However, early obstacles stand in their way, as Yum-Yum is already betrothed to the new Lord High Executioner, Ko-Ko. After the Mikado orders a beheading, Nanki-Poo and Ko-Ko come together in order to settle on an arrangement in which no one has to lose their heads!
Sullivan’s comic opera is bursting with memorable melodies, the most renowned moment being the ‘little list’ song by Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner. It is considered a topical highlight of Jonathan Miller’s astounding inventive production. This ENO production of The Mikado is sung in English with surtitles projected above the stage during most performances.
Baritone Richard Suart (Zeta in The Merry Widow) will be returning to the role he has made his own, the scheming Ko-Ko. Joining him in the role of Pooh-Bah is Baritone Andrew Shore (Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow). Sir John Tomlinson (Boris Ismailov in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) will join the cast as the oversized Mikado.
The two romantic leads of Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum are played by two ENO Harewood Artists, Soraya Mafi and Elgan Llŷr Thomas.
Opening night of The Mikado is also the ENO's annual Gala performance. This year's gala performance is in support of the Sir John Tomlinson Fellowship which supports ENO Harewood Artists, the English National Opera's flagship training programme for British born/trained singers who have the potential for an international career. Tickets purchased for the gala performance, Monday 28 October, will include in the price a donation and a glass of bubbly.
The unfurling love story of a comic-opera size is not one to be missed so be sure to book The Mikado ENO tickets now! Miller’s dazzling production will open 23 October 2019 at the West End's London Coliseum and tickets are already limited so be sure to act fast to secure the best seats at the best prices!
